It is amazing after nary a semester of kindergarten and a revolving door of various substitutes the last 10 weeks (see previous post) that my son can read. He knows more than 30 sight words and can sound out basic short vowel phonics. Knows a vowel from a consonant and can read and spell all the number and color words. Amazing!!
Last night I was reading AA Milne's Winnie the Pooh to him. You know, the long thick novelesque children's story collection with a few pencil drawings here and there. Not the super animated Disney version movie by book.
After a few pages, he quietly says, "Mama, if you add the /p/ sound to the end of "pooh" it makes the word "poop" (or "poohp" if you will). I said, "Yes, it does." At which he replied, "but that's kind of gross, isn't it?"
mmhmmm was all I could say without busting up laughing.
My child can read AND spell!!
