If you knew me before I was a mother, when I was just simply Martha, you would be shocked to know that I let my glorious and precious, impressionable and young, Notorious B-I-G watch Star Wars. It has consumed our house, our late night TV privileges, our legos, our Wii and even our faith. I use the term "our" loosely seeing as I have never actually watched an entire Star Wars film. Ever. I resisted for many months but Fairy in her wisdom convinced me that A) It's a boy thing and B) It is a great parallel to our faith as Christ Followers. And so I succumbed and Pompey took his role and responsibility as Papa and shepherd very very seriously.
Notorious builds lego ships by the dozens, has asked both of his pastors at Keystone if Obi Wan is a Christ follower, because he is SURE he is and really wants to know. The other night we discussed just exactly where they all live. I mean, we know where Anakin lives because we have seen his house and his room but what about all the others? Surely they share a meal, use the bathroom and sleep now and then. Right? I sadly had no answers, just my imagination. And let me tell you, Star Wars stretches the Martha imaginings to the outer limits.
It is amazing the bond between Pompey and Notorious over these films. The serious and intelligent discussions over all the roles and functions each character plays. I have no idea and go about my sewing and baking as usual.
Pitufo and Tiny have picked up the lingo and character names but Star Wars is like chewing gum in our house, you have to be "of age" and the Star Wars age is 7. Gum is 5 in case you were wondering. It is quite comical to hear Tiny say "I wanna be Obi Wan." Like how does he even know what that means. But it makes Pompey smile. And it makes Fairy beam. And so Martha does not cringe but embraces the boy...
