I need to document the fact that I completed a 10K walk/run. Mostly walk. Who are we kidding? The littles were SO excited when I walked in the door with my number on and they seriously asked me if I won!! Take a minute to laugh, it's okay. Really, all I wanted to do is finish and not be last and I accomplished both of those things with my trusty sidekick who unfortunately for some strange reason does not have a nickname although she is a soul sister and all soul sisters have other names other than their own but this one does not so oh well. We plowed through together and I was slower than her. Embarassing. But true.
10K is alot of walking people. Most of those people were running which made us wonder if walking wasn't such a great idea after all but we were too far gone and too proud to cut it short back to the 5k so we plowed on.
Crossing the finish line was exhilirating. Akin to the feeling after you push out a baby but not near as good. Or rewarding. But thrilling in its own way. And left me determined to do it again. Much like childbirth. For me anyway. Diffrence being that doing a 10k helps you lose weight and having a baby, not so much.
So there it is ladies. I did a 10k. Fat Martha hauled her arse around the lake and did it. And finished stronger, prouder, more confident, and 2 pounds lighter.
Not too shabby.
Isn't that what competition is all about, really? Finishing strong and challenging yourself. Even if you win, come in first, what is it worth if there was no challenge?
And that is what I hope to impart to the littles.
Can't wait to do it again.
Maybe 5K next time.......
