I like white. I have white walls. White bed. White mirror. White and black photographs on my walls. White desk. White walls. All walls are white. White white. White bedskirt. White curtains. And now I am on a quest to turn all my random hodgepodge beloved pieces white too.
Armed with two cans of white flat spray paint, I conquered two trunks that were painted with hydrangeas. Cheap. Floral looking. Not me. Now...they are white. So me.
Next will be our americana bedside tables. Then my dresser which is actually an old kitchen cabinet cabbaged on from Pompey's grandmother's estate sale. Nobody else likes it but Martha loves it. It speaks to me. It has soul. And the places where the paint is chipping is an endless array of other colors. Ivory. Shades of green. And next, it will be white. Stark, flat, white.
Then I will attack an old sewing/knitting holder that was my great grandmother's. It has been sitting in the floor of my ghastly closet for three years. Because I love it. But it needs to be white. Too.
I love the serenity and simplicity of white. And I also love all my little collections of things. Birdies, tea cups and cake plates overflowing with color coordinated jewelry. Two walls of aprons hanging, one wall for decoration, the other in constant rotation. These are the places that bring color and pattern to our home. The sentimental. The useful. The artistic.
It is a combination of european simplicity and american abundance. it is who we are.
When Notorious was in the belly, all my other prego friends were creating lavish nurseries but me, all I wanted was white. And most of the baby clothes I bought were white too. I wanted to let him show me his identity. His color. He looks good in green. And brown. But the boy loves yellow. Seriously loves yellow.
But me. I like white. I even have a birdy that's white. A myriad of white tablecloths. White tea cups. Pitchers. Platters. Creamers. All white. All simple. Making room for lovely colors from Anthropologie to brighten up our days...
I am inspired. Almost feel crafty.
But not quite. Just paintery.
And guess what I wear when I paint....
All white...linen skirt blowing in the breeze...
